För en tid sedan presenterade Universitetskanslersämbetet (UKÄ) resultatet från utvärderingen av hur Sveriges universitet och högskolor arbetar med att främja hållbar utveckling. Fokus låg på utbildningsområdet och SLU tillhör de sju av totalt 47 undersökta universitet och högskolor som fått mycket gott omdöme. UKÄ berömmer SLU bland annat för sitt miljöledningsarbete, för den utbildning som enheten för pedagogisk utveckling (EPU) genomför för programstudierektor och kursansvariga lärare, för vår samverkan med Uppsala universitet inom Centrum för miljö- och utvecklingsstudier (Cemus) och för hur vi, i våra utbildningar, integrerar hållbarhetsperspektiven.
Hade UKÄ även tittat på forskningsområdet, så är jag övertygad om att de hade imponerats lika mycket, inte minst med tanke på vår satsning på våra framtidsplattformar och hur vår samlade kompetens inom forskning, utbildning, miljöanalys och samverkan bidrar till Agenda 2030 för hållbar utveckling.
Nu växlar vi upp ytterligare: Ambitionen på utbildningssidan är att alla program, senast 2020, ska innehålla moment som behandlar de ekonomiska, ekologiska, hälsomässiga och sociala perspektiven på hållbar utveckling. Kopplingarna mellan forskning, utbildning och samverkan stärks inom framtidsplattformarna och i vårt internationaliseringsarbete. Samarbetet med Uppsala universitet i Cemus intensifieras och utvecklas. Vi söker också långsiktiga samarbeten med andra aktörer.
Som rektor tidigare bloggat om – SLU är viktigt som det svenska universitet där fokus är på att utveckla de bästa lösningarna för ett fossilfritt samhälle, för ett hållbart brukande av våra naturresurser och för ett hållbart nyttjande av våra djur, men utan att hota den biologiska mångfalden.
I Kantar Sifos anseendeindex ligger SLU på sjunde plats av 20 svenska lärosäten (). Vårt anseende bygger på att vi har framgångsrik och trovärdig forskning och utbildning som ger samhällsnytta. Med fortsatt höga ambitioner inom våra ämnesområden kompletterat med större synlighet kan vi skjuta fram våra positioner ytterligare. Det finns många goda berättelser ifrån SLU och många goda berättare – jag vill att flera ska höra dem!

Our work creates what is needed for a sustainable, thriving and better world
Last month, the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ), presented the results of their evaluation (in Swedish) of the work done at Swedish universities and higher education institutions to promote sustainable development. The evaluation focused on disciplinary domains, and SLU is one of seven reviewed universities out of 47 that received the rating ‘very good’. UKÄ commends SLU, among other things, for our environmental management work, the training provided by the Educational Development Unit (EPU) to programme directors of studies and course coordinating teachers, our collaboration with Uppsala University in relation to the Centre for Environment and Development Studies (Cemus) and how we integrate the sustainability perspective in our courses and programmes.
If UKÄ had also reviewed research domains, I am convinced that they would have been equally impressed, not least considering how much we have worked on our future platforms and how our research, education, environmental assessment and collaboration together contribute to Agenda 2030 in regard to sustainable development.
Now, we are turning it up a notch: the aim is that all programmes will involve components concerning financial, ecological, health and social perspectives on sustainable development. The connections between research, education and collaboration are strengthened through the future platforms and our internalisation work. The collaboration with Uppsala University within Cemus will be intensified and developed. We are also seeking long-term collaboration with other parties.
The vice-chancellor recently blogged about how SLU is an important Swedish university where focus lies on developing the best solutions for a fossil fuel free society, sustainable use of our natural resources and sustainable use of our animals without threatening biological diversity.
In Kantar Sifo’s reputation index (written in Swedish), SLU came in 7th place out of 20 Swedish higher education institutions. Our reputation is built on the fact that we produce successful and credible research and education that are also useful to society. If we continue to be highly ambitious in our subject areas and increase our visibility, we can climb even higher. There are many great stories at SLU and many great storytellers – I want more of them to be heard.
