Aim: The aim of the study is to observe and analyze how the animals are handled before slaughter at the abattoir in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The aim is also to study the animal welfare in Ethiopia as a pre-work for further studies.

Title: The animal welfare in a developing country, Ethiopia: handling of animals at animal markets and during transport from markets to the abattoir in Addis Abeba

Aim: The aim of this study is to document how animals are handled at the feeding markets and during transport from these to the abattoirs. An analysation and comparison of the animal welfare in Ethiopia with respect to the animal welfare at Swedish abattoirs will be fulfilled. The study will also conclude a description of the animal market chain from Gudar market to Addis Ababa abattoir.
